Dien Bien was named by king Thieu Tri in
1841, Dien Bien means robust frontier, proving strategic location of this land.
Dien Bien is associated with Dien Bien Phu historical victory- one of the
symbols showing the will to fight for independence and freedom of the
Dien Bien is a border province lying in the
Northwest of Viet Nam, its natural area is of 9.562,9 km2; population is over
520 thousand people. Dien Bien province consists of 10 administrative units: 01
city called Dien Bien Phu, 01 township (Muong Lay) and 08 districts (namely
Dien Bien, Dien Bien Dong, Muong Ang, Tuan Giao, Tua Chua, Muong Cha, Muong
Nhe, Nam Po). Dien Bien is about 480 km far away from Ha Noi capital sharing
the borderline with the People Democartic Republic of Laos and People Republic
of China, in which the borderline with Laos is about 360km, with China is about
40 km. In borderlines, there are international bordergate including Tay Trang -
Pang Hoc and national bordergate Huoi Puoc - Na Son with Laos; Apachai - Long
Phu with China. Besides the national highway routes, Dien Bien is exploiting
Dien Bien Phu - Ha Noi airline with the frequency of 02 flights per day.
Dien Bien is a province of great potential
in tourism development, especially in historical, cultural and ecological
tourism, in which the most outstanding one is the historical vestige of Dien
Bien Phu battlefield (one of the special national vestiges) with traditional
cultural values of 19 ethnic group owning distinct, plentiful and unique aspects.
In addition, Dien Bien has many caves, hot mineral and lake spreading
everywhere varying natural resources of Dien Bien tourism.
